Inside Paris’s Gare de Lyon stands the legendary Le Train Bleu, a restaurant that first opened in 1901 and dazzles guests with its palace-like décor.
My wife and I dined there during our honeymoon in France, and it turned out to be an utterly exquisite experience—graceful, luxurious, and unforgettable.

The Interior Feels Like the Palace of Versailles
The moment I stepped inside, I was struck speechless.
The high ceilings are adorned with splendid frescoes, and the golden decorations that cover the walls make us feel as if we’re dining in the grand hall of the Palace of Versailles.
Soft light filters in through the windows overlooking the classic interior of Gare de Lyon, creating a timeless, dreamlike atmosphere.

Menus We Ordered
<Starters>
Terrine of Duck Foie Gras with Verbena Berries, Pickled Red Fruits, and Brioche

As soon as I took a bite, the rich and creamy flavor of duck foie gras gently spread across my palate, followed by a refreshing aroma of verbena.
The pickled red fruits on the side added just the right amount of acidity, perfectly balancing the richness of the foie gras.
Each bite revealed a new harmony of flavors — a refined twist on a classic dish, truly “Le Train Bleu style.”
At that moment, I already knew: this dinner would be something special.
(By the way, I couldn’t identify the appetizer on the left side of the photo even after checking later in Japan, but it was also amazing!)
<Main>
Normandy Beef Sirloin Steak

For the main course, I chose the Normandy beef sirloin steak.
The moment it arrived, the sizzling aroma filled the air — simply irresistible.
The outside was beautifully seared, while the inside remained a perfect rosy pink.
Tender, juicy, and deeply flavorful — it was everything you could hope for in a steak.
The beef from Normandy, a region in northwestern France known for its lush pastures, dairy, and cattle, is celebrated for its rich flavor and delicate fat.
Each bite carried a taste of nature itself — deep, satisfying, and full of life.
Savoring Normandy beef in the grandeur of Le Train Bleu felt less like a “meal” and more like experiencing art.
<Desserts>
・Baba bouchon, Citrus Flavors, and Vanilla Whipped Cream

・Menton Lemon and Fresh Herbs

The Baba Bouchon is one of the restaurant’s signature desserts, and we noticed many guests ordering it.
A cheerful waiter arrived at the table and generously poured rum syrup over the sponge cake before slicing it with a flourish — it felt like watching a little show.
Infused with citrus aroma and topped with vanilla whipped cream, the dessert blended the richness of rum, the brightness of citrus, and the smoothness of cream — a true indulgence for adults.
(If you’re sensitive to alcohol, you may need to skip this one.)
My wife chose the Menton Lemon and Fresh Herbs dessert, made with premium lemons from the sunny south of France.
Menton lemons are famous for their rich fragrance and gentle acidity, perfectly balanced with natural sweetness.
This refreshing dish showcased the bright flavor of lemon and the clean aroma of fresh herbs — the perfect palate cleanser after a rich main course.
Delicately plated with creams, mousses, and lemon gel artfully arranged like a painting, it was a visual delight —
a true example of Le Train Bleu’s sophisticated sense of presentation, turning dessert into “edible art.”
Atmosphere & Service
Next to us sat another Japanese couple, and my wife and they quickly struck up a friendly conversation — it made the evening even more enjoyable.
Le Train Bleu is quite popular among Japanese guests, and they even provide a Japanese menu.
Orders are taken in English or French, so a little language confidence helps.

Dress Code & Etiquette
Although Le Train Bleu is an elegant, historic restaurant, you don’t need to overdress.
I wore a suit and tie just to be safe, but business casual would have been fine.
That said, I did notice a few guests wearing hats indoors and jeans, which looked somewhat out of place in such a refined setting.
A respectful, well-groomed outfit is ideal — it complements the luxurious decor, exquisite cuisine, and the graceful service.
Visiting Le Train Bleu in elegant attire truly enhances the experience.
Cuisine as an Art Form
From presentation and aroma to taste and timing, every element of the meal felt like a work of art.
Each dish carried the chef’s dedication and creativity, while the waitstaff performed their service with practiced elegance.
It wasn’t just dinner — it was a sensory performance, a celebration of French gastronomy.
Overall Impression
From the food and service to the breathtaking ambiance, everything was outstanding.
I wholeheartedly recommend Le Train Bleu for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience in Paris.
Since it’s a popular restaurant, reservations are highly recommended.
For a truly special evening in Paris —
share the magic of Le Train Bleu with someone you love.
