Bonjour!
Yesterday, I tackled a TOEIC test after a long time. I worked on the Reading section of Test 1 from the Official TOEIC Listening & Reading Practice Test 11.
I got 82 out of 100 questions correct, which corresponds to a band score of 375–440.
The band score was 375–440, but I actually felt I would only manage around 400, and I could clearly feel that my English reading ability for the exam has declined compared to four years ago.
Since these were official TOEIC questions, I didn’t find them particularly difficult, but I clearly felt that both my reading speed and accuracy had declined.
Noticing I’d Been Away from English for a While
Since taking the TOEIC and IELTS four years ago, I’ve been spending more time on other things—mainly investing and studying French—so my opportunities to use English have decreased.
Even though I thought I was keeping in touch with English in my daily life, in reality, I rarely had chances to read intensively and quickly, like during a TOEIC test.
Back then, I used to get over 90 questions correct on the official practice tests and finish them within the time limit, though the real exam was always a race against the clock.
My new goal is to regain the ability to finish the Reading section comfortably, even under test conditions.
Strengthening My Reading Skills with New Materials – Aiming for a 900+ TOEIC Score!
After seeing my Reading result yesterday, I immediately ordered a new practice book. It’s scheduled to arrive tomorrow (thank you, Amazon!).
Starting then, I’ll begin training with Masao Seki’s “TOEIC L&R Test Dokkai Tokkyuu: Kamitoki 108 Questions.”
Through this book, I’ll focus on:
- Improving my English reading speed
- Enhancing comprehension accuracy
- Getting familiar with common TOEIC question patterns
From now on, I’ll also be sharing updates on my English learning progress and reviewing the materials I use here on my blog.
I hope my real and honest study records will be helpful for those who’ve just restarted studying for the TOEIC or are aiming for a higher score.
Au revoir!
