On the first night of our honeymoon in Paris, my wife and I had dinner at a cozy little restaurant called Le Temp des Cerises.
It’s a small, warm-hearted restaurant tucked away on a quiet street in the 4th arrondissment.
And this is a must-visit spot for fans of Emily in Paris — it appeared in Season 3, Episode 2, “What’s It All About…”.
AI Translation Fails – and We Couldn’t Stop Laughing!
Since the menu was written entirely in French with no English at all, we felt a little nouvous as we took our seats.
We were given an explanation in English about today’s menu by our waiter, but of course, we couldn’t ask about every single dish.
As I was trying to decide what to order, my wife suddenly burst out laughing.
(It’s worth mentioning that the waiters here are fluent in both English and French, great communicators, very knowledgeable about the food and drinks—and all tall and handsome!)
Apparently, my wife had been using an AI translation app called PAPAGO, and she showed me the hilarious result it produced.
It appears that my wife used the AI translation app called PAPAGO, and she showed me the translation.

“Salmon paving stones”… seriously?
I forgot the other ones, but there were some equally funny translations like “Chou-chou-shoo something.”
In the end, I relied on ChatGPT and Google Gemini to place my order.
Both ChatGPT and Gemini provide quite accurate translation, so I highly recommend them.
They occasionally make small mistakes, but they can even red handwritten menus with impressive accuracy – making them truly reliable travel buddies in France!
What we order
This time we order these ones.
Starter(Entrées)
• Crispy salad with langoustines
• (Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of my wife’s dish…)

Main(Plats)
• Thick-cut sautéed salmon with carrot mousseline and sautéed vegetables
• Clam risotto

The salmon was perfectly seared on the outside and tender inside.
The sweet and creamy carrot mousseline paired so beautifully with it that I couldn’t help but smile at the first bite.
The clam risotto was packed with rich umami flavor — a perfect balance of French elegance and comforting warmth.
It was a truly memorable dish, perfect for the first dinner of our trip.
Our Little French Dining Mistake
When we think of French cuisine, we imagine the classic flow — starter, main, and dessert.
So naturally, we ordered two starters and two mains, thinking it would be just right.
Then the food arrived… and it was about 1.5 times more than we expected!
To make things even more filling, a basket of baguettes came along, and the salmon main was served with a huge portion of mashed potatoes.
Clearly, we didn’t understand the French portion sizes.
Even I — someone who usually finishes everything on my plate — had to leave some of the mashed potatoes behind…
Looking around, I noticed that many locals skipped the starter and went straight to the main dish.
Some people simply ordered wine + main + dessert, which now makes total sense.
So at restaurants like this, it seems you don’t really need to worry too much about the order of your dishes.
As for the dress code — we were probably a little overdressed.
Most guests were in very casual outfits — shorts and sandals were common — while we showed up in a jacket and dress.
It turns out a relaxed outfit fits the atmosphere here.
🎬 A Famous Scene from Emily in Paris
Le Temps des Cerises appears in Season 3, Episode 2 of Emily in Paris.
It’s an important scene where Sylvie meets with Luc and Julien to discuss the future of her PR company, Agence Grateau.
Nicolas, Mindy’s old friend and the heir to a major company, proposes to acquire her firm.
Since their only remaining client is Pierre Cadault, the company’s survival is at risk.
Sylvie consults Luc and Julien about whether she should accept the offer.
They encourage her to stay true to herself and follow her own path — a moment that deeply moves her.
The three of them embrace in front of Le Temps des Cerises in one of the most touching scenes of the series.
Both my wife and I love Luc — he’s usually silly and carefree, but always dependable when it really matters.
That’s why this scene ranks among our top five favorites from the show.
If you’re a fan of Emily in Paris, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit spot!
